Sydney Celebrates Josh and Julie Niland's Restaurants and Josh Niland Winning Chef of the Year.
Josh Niland took home Chef of the Year at The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2024 Awards last night, Monday, 23rd October 2023.
Josh and Julie Niland also celebrated both their restaurants listed in the guide's other awards, with Petermen achieving two Hats and Saint Peter retaining Two Hats:
Saint Peter - Best Restaurant (listed two Hats)
Petermen - Best New Restaurant (listed straight in at two Hats)
The Australian Good Food Guide is the home of The Hats, the system in which NSW/ACT and VIC restaurants are judged and scored, with three hats rating the highest. Each year, when the guide is released, and The Hats are revealed, The Good Food Guide holds an award ceremony celebrating the outstanding achievements of restaurants and chefs.
This year, Josh and Julie Niland had nominations in three categories: Best Chef, Best New Restaurant and Best Restaurant.
The nominations themselves are an achievement, but winning Chef of the Year is a great honour. Josh was unable to attend the award ceremony, as he is currently in The Singapore EDITION, preparing to open his first overseas restaurant in the hotel in November. However, his business partner and wife, Julie, accepted the award on his behalf.
Josh Niland said of winning the award, “I have never been more proud of our team. We have attracted incredible talent, and their professionalism and maturity have helped accelerate our dream. They have given us the level of confidence to take on our first overseas restaurant, my third book and the power to communicate the work we are doing on a far larger scale. I am deeply grateful for this award. Thank you so much, and I accept it on behalf of every one of them”.
The Singapore EDITION will open its doors in November 2023 and marks the couple's first restaurant outside of Australia.
